Familiar Environment, it is really so important!
Your pet remains in a safe, secure familiar environment, for dogs this is their den and your home, where all the sights, sounds and smells are familiar. It works the same way for cats. Cats are very stressed by removal from their familiar surroundings. Having your pet remain in a familiar environment, their den, is the single most important and considerate thing you can do for your pet if you must leave them. Pets are, of course, happiest when they are with you, dogs especially as you are their leader. There just is no debating that fact, but since being with you is not always possible they are happiest being at home, in familiar surroundings. When it comes to dogs...if you truly understand dogs, then you understand that they are happiest when being provided mental stimulation and exercise in their own familiar surroundings. That means being in your home which is their den! To further explain, in the wild, the alpha or leader is allowed to leave and come back, but the subordinates remain. Dog's really don't like to leave their den without their leader. Sound like the most basic of common sense! That's because it is!
